My name is Michiko Black. I was born and raised in Tokyo Japan. I began learning Vaganova style Ballet at the age of 3, also piano and Japanese Traditional Dance. However, my love has always been towards Ballet. At the age of 17 I was the winner of a national competition in ballet that afforded me the opportunity to join the Tokyo Ballet Company. As well, I opened my own studio in Tokyo at this time. I also was an actress in a production company in Tokyo where I was involved in many movies and TV programs. 

 I moved to USA at the age of 21 to Washington State and managed my own ballet studio for 20 years. My daughter also became a professional ballet dancer after her experiences with me in my studio. A few years after she left home to pursue her own dance career, we closed our studio. My love for dance brought me to Ballroom. It is challenging for a traditional ballet dancer to learn aspects of ballroom dancing, but I love it so much that I continue to try and to learn. We moved to our home in St Augustine area late last year and since have been working with Alex and Ekaterina. I have much respect for them and hope to keep learning under their instruction. Most of all, I am so appreciative of my husband ; he has understood my passion for dance so has supported my interest in ballet, now ballroom. I love him so very much! Alex, Ekaterina and I have worked hard on this performance; I will try to represent their teachings with the respect deserves.
